Winterberry Cottage :: The Jeanie Johnston in St. Andrews, New Brunswick

I was invited to participate on behalf of the radio stations where I work and I arrived at St. Andrews harbour and found the boat that I would be on to go out to meet the Jeanie Johnston as it arrived. Here it is at the dock - The Molly Kool.

The Molly Kool is a schooner that operates from St. Andrews giving people an opportuinity to sail out in the bay. The normally make four trips a day.

As we begin to leave the harbour, our captain is filmed by the CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corporation). The reporter told us that the footage would likely be on nationwide television (in Canada) later that day.

There were 14 of us on board the Molly Kool with everyone excited at the chance to see the Jeanie Johnston up close and personal.

Our captain Darren as we leave St. Andrews. I should mention that Darren and his wife Kim are two of the nicest people that you will ever meet and go out of their way to accommodate their passengers.

Darren told me that he is a native of Moncton, NB and this is their first year to operate the Molly Kool. I saw first hand how well Darren knows how to operate this boat and it is truly amazing!

We went out under the power of a motor as the wind was very light this day. Kim put the sails up when we were out into more wind.

These are some of my fellow shipmates. The young lady nearest told me she was vacationing from Boston where she works for the Boston Bruins NHL hockey team. The reporter for CBC films in the background.

As we start to round Deer Island, we catch our first view of the Jeanie Johnston in the distance. Everyone on our boat was excited.

We are nearing high tide as she heads in. We have the highest tides in the world here in the border areas of Maine and New Brunswick.

On board the Molly Kool, Darren's wife Kim, also his first mate, plays the violin for those on board the Jeanie Johnston. At this time we were close enough to communicate with those on board and they warmly applauded Kim's playing of the violin!
