Album: 2003 Polar Bear Dip

On a cold January day in 2003, WCCC held its 3rd Annual Polar Bear Dip to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House in Bangor. The facility serves people from Downeast Maine when they need hospital services in Bangor. Several hundred people turned out at the Passamaquoddy Resevervation in Sipyak on a day that ocean harbors froze in parts of Maine for the first time in some number of years. The temperature was in the teens with a wind chill of over 20 below zero! The measured ocean temperature was 32 degrees - much colder than normal! The event raised over $18,000 from people who donated to see a friend or loved one suffer.
